Our Programs and Projects
*Fall Backpacks Project: Every fall, our chapter members donate backpacks filled with school supplies for elementary students, and for secondary level students. These much needed supplies are distributed to the schools where they are most needed or to the Boys and Girls Club of Burbank. Last year, we collected over 25 backpacks and filled them with pencils, erasers, markers, crayons, notebooks, folders, pens of all colors, scissors, glue, dividers, pencil pouches, rulers, and more. |

Burbank Family Services: Each December, our members donate food items, and toys and clothing, to 10-12 families in need, through the Burbank Coordinating Council. We only know the family by a designated number and an age for which to buy clothing. We often purchase gift cards for these families as well. The food items and gifts are collected in large, decorated boxes, and then presented to the Burbank Family Services, for them to distribute.
Holiday Books Donated: On April 10, 2018, we donated over 30 books, covering all the Holidays throughout the year! These holiday books were presented to Edison Elementary School and they were thrilled. The staff will be placing book plate stickers into each of our donated books, before placing them on their shelves.
In April 2019, Fatima Morales collected books from all of our members, for John Muir Middle School and presented them to the staff at a staff meeting.
In 2020 we will be collecting books for two of our elementary schools.
Teacher Grants: Each year we accept Grant Applications from Burbank Teachers, to receive a $500 grant from Beta Epsilon. The teachers who apply, fill out a simple application which states what type of project they would like to implement in their classroom, what the benefits would be for their students, which core standards would be addressed, and what the cost might be. We select one or two qualifying applicants.
This year Darlene Crain and Hilde Garcia both received a $500 Grant from Beta Epsilon. Darlene, 2nd grade teacher, had students replicate in clay, a famous French piece. Hilde, 5th grade teacher, created a STEAM project with 18 stations, at an all school evening Science event, which was a great success.
Last year Cynthia Madera, a third grade teacher at Miller Elementary School, was our grant recipient. She created a Garden Galore Project with her students and the help of many parents too. She showed us photos and videos of what her class created with the use of her Grant money. She was able to purchase two standing flowerbeds, a hanging pot per student, soil, seeds, bulbs, and more.
Teachers with 25 plus years of service: Each spring, we have created lovely bookmarkers, and bundled them with a few classroom supplies, and a Thank You to those teachers who have worked for 25 years as a teacher in Burbank Unified School District. This is our way to recognize these dedicated educators and let them know that they are appreciated.
